Listen & Lyrics: Maren Morris ‘The Furthest Thing’
“The Furthest Thing” is one of the standout track off of Humble Quest by Maren Morris.
Morris co-wrote the song with her husband Ryan Hurd and Greg Kurstin. The track is featured on her third major label studio album, Humble Quest, which debuted on March 25. The record explores the last few years of her life which included having her first baby, a son named Hayes, with her husband, Ryan Hurd. She also grieved the loss of her longtime collaborator and friend, Busbee. Those two major life events, paired with the pandemic, made Maren Morris’ life do a 360.
“I’ve been having this moving target for so long,” she told Vulture of her record’s meaning. “And equating success with accolades and what I’ve achieved. That all got wiped away. This whole record and the way it’s titled is about the idea that I don’t know if I’m ever going to reach that destination.”
Maren Morris “The Furthest Thing” Lyrics:
Three weeks gone, miss your face
Same old songs, different stage
Hear your voice, ain’t the same
Wanna feel you closer, now I’m counting down the days
‘Cause you’re the furthest thing
But damn do we still fit so perfectly
‘Cause you’re the furthest thing
But damn do we still fit so perfectly, perfectly
Hotel rooms even now
Silence feels way too loud
Won’t feel right till my wheels touch down
Crazy how we thought by now we’d have it figured out
‘Cause we’re the furthest thing
But damn do we still fit so perfectly
‘Cause we’re the furthest thing
But damn do we still fit so perfectly, perfectly
Distance makes the heart grow stranger
When the stars go out of view
Something in the universe pulls me back to you
Distance makes the heart grow stranger
When the stars go out of view
Something in the universe pulls me back to you
When you’re the furthest thing
Furthest thing, furthest thing, furthest thing
Yeah, when you’re the furthest thing
Damn do we still fit so perfectly
Yeah, we’re the furthest thing
But damn do we still fit so perfectly, perfectly
