The Story Behind ‘Still Alive’ By Demi Lovato From ‘Scream 6’

By  |

Demi Lovato lent her vocals in the new Scream 6 film with her single, “Still Alive.”

The pop-punk artist is featured on the soundtrack for Scream 6 which plays into her rock roots. Demi Lovato co-wrote the song alongside Laura Veltz and Mike Shinoda, who also produced the track. This marked the first release since the debut of the 30-year-old’s eighth studio album, Holy Fvck.

“Already died a thousand times / Went to hell but I’m back and I’m breathing / Make me bleed while my heart is still beating / Still alive,” she sings on the track.

While the song is inspired by Scream 6, it also has personal meaning for her. Demi Lovato has been open about her 2018 heroin overdose, and wants the world to know that she too is still alive.

Demi Lovato on Writing ‘Still Alive’ For ‘Scream 6’

“The song that I created for the movie was obviously for the movie,” she began. “So I wanted it to tie into the film, but also it’s a very personal song for me too. Lyrically, I wanted to express myself and tell the world how I’m still alive as well.”

“I’m a fan of the movies and I’m a fan of horror films,” Demi Lovato admitted. “I was super excited to be a part of this and I can’t wait to see the film again tonight.”

Alongside the release of the single, Demi Lovato also debuted a music video. The visuals feature cuts from the actual movie in addition to her starring in her very own scary movie.

The music video featured two special guest stars — Mike Shinoda alongside Ice Nine Kills frontman Spencer Charnas. The two portray hotel employees that help Lovato and her friends check into the establishment before the group catches a scary movie in the ballroom.

The film comes to life when Ghost Face attacks Lovato. Will she make it out?

“Proud to have co-written & produced this track for the one and only Demi Lovato,” Shinoda tweeted. “More music on the way.”

“Honored to have a little cameo in this amazing new Demi Lovato video for one of my all-time favorite movie franchises, Scream. This song SLAYS, she is such a badass,” Charnas wrote.
