The Story Behind ‘Work It Out’ By Joe Jonas

By  |

Joe Jonas officially ushered in his new musical chapter with “Work It Out.”

Although the Jonas Brothers still have more world tour dates, Joe Jonas has debuted his new material. After teasing fans with clips of the song on social media, the hype quickly picked up. “Even baddies get saddies,” seems to be a standout lyric that made listeners relate. He later gave the first live performance of the song during the Jonas Brothers’ Calgary Stampede performance to rave reviews.

“The idea is pretty much just sometimes you realize that you just have to shake yourself out of something and you’re the only person whose going to fix it for yourself. No one is going to come save you,” Joe explained of the song’s inspiration in an episode of the Therapuss podcast. He added that he felt a “pull emotionally” to work on his music on his own. He ended up asking Kevin and Nick for their “blessings” to be able to express his feelings for himself.

“You can make this like a generalization, saying, like, ‘Alright, this is what we all go through. We’ve all gone through something like this in our life. Whether good or bad or heartache,'” he told Sirius XM of the track’s origin. “And for me, I was like, ‘This is something that I feel like it’s hard for me to just share that with anyone.'”

‘Work It Out’ Songwriters:

Joe Jonas teamed up with Jason Evigan and Blush to write “Work It Out.” Jason also produced the track.

A New Solo Album

On July 17, Joe officially announced that his new single will be featured on his upcoming album, Music For People Who Believe In Love. The record is set to release on October 18. The new track served as a taste for what fans can expect from his new solo music. You’ll recall that aside from the Jonas Brothers (alongside Kevin and Nick), Joe also released a solo record before creating the band, DNCE. This will mark his first true solo music since his 2011 release of Fastlife.

Joe described the album as a “celebration of gratitude, hope, and love.” In a press release he shared that the lyrics will showcase his life “from a bird’s-eye view.”

“When we take a moment to breathe, pause, and reflect on the positives, my hope is that we can find acceptance and ultimately peace in the present moment. It’s okay to cry and mourn a loss – it’s part of the process to take care of ourselves and eventually enables us to be there for the people we care about,” he said.
