Halsey Unveils Gia Coppola-Directed Lucky Music Video
Aren’t we just so lucky? Not only is Halsey back with new music, but they also have a brand new music video, directed by none other than Gia Coppola.
“Lucky,” out today via Columbia Records, samples Britney Spears’ song of the same title as well as Monica’s “Angel Of Mine” and was produced by Michael Uzowuru, Rahm Silverglade, and Dylan Wiggins.
The music video for the song was directed by film director and screenwriter Gia Coppola.
Coppola had previously directed six other music videos, including Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Your Type” (2015) and “Cut To The Feeling” (2017), as well Gracie Abrams’ ”Where do we go now?” (2023).
THE STORY BEHIND LUCKY BY HALSEY
Throughout several Q&As on X, Halsey shared more about asking and getting Spears’ permission to sample her 2000 hit.
“I wouldn’t even dream of doing it without [Britney’s] blessing!,” the artist first shared, before adding a couple of days later, “[I] wrote her the longest, sappiest, stan letter of all time and she was soooo nice.” As for the inspiration to sample the song to begin with, Halsey confided, “I remember the first time I heard her sing lucky and it hitting me at such a young age that I had no idea what her life was really like. and that feeling resonates with me so much still. I found myself singing it when I started treatment and then I knew I had to do it.”
THE LUCKY Y2K MARKETING CAMPAIGN
The release of “Lucky” and its accompanying music video was preceded by a month-long teen-star-themed marketing campaign. The promotional TikTok clips included a Got Milk commercial, a Disney Channel-like introduction and a Nickelodeon-like slime video, as well as various paparazzi shots and fake tabloid covers.
