The Story Behind ‘II Most Wanted’ By Beyonce and Miley Cyrus

The pop-country crossover collaboration we’ve always needed, Beyonce and Miley Cyrus with “II Most Wanted.”

On March 29, Beyonce released her country record, Act II: Cowboy Carter. The 27-track album featured a slew of high profile collaborations. Post Malone, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Willie Jones, Linda Martell, among others were featured on it. “II Most Wanted” was streamed the most out of any song off the record. The duo received 16.7 million streams on Spotify alone since Friday. After the song’s release, Cyrus took to Instagram to write just about how thankful she is to work with one of her idols.

“I’ve loved Beyoncé since long before I had the opportunity to meet & work with her,” she began. “My admiration runs so much deeper now that I’ve created along side of her.” She then thanked Beyonce in addition to “everyone who spent time making this song so special thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

I’ll be your shotgun rider ’til the day I die
Smoke out the window flying down the 405
I’ll be your backseat baby, driving you crazy
Anytime you like
Woah, I’ll be your shotgun rider ’til the day I
‘Til the day I die

Miley Cyrus and Beyonce’s Relationship

“II Most Wanted” wasn’t the first time that Miley and Beyonce have collaborated together. Back in 2008, a supergroup of major artists came together in honor of Stand Up To Cancer. They recorded the theme son, “Just Stand Up,” for the annual telethon. The group included both Miley and Beyonce along with Rihanna, Mary J. Blige, Carrie Underwood, and Mariah Carey, among numerous others.

Apparently their meeting went well. In a subsequent interview, Miley confessed that Beyonce actually gifted her a jacket. She counted it as “the favorite thing I have in my closet” at the time.

While growing up, Miley admitted that she saw Beyonce as a role model. When she spoke with Oprah Winfrey back in 2007, she explained that her mother, Tish, was also a big fan of Beyonce. Miley counted the “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer her mother’s “favorite person in the world.”

“My mom brings me every article. Look, she’s so humble but she’s so amazing. She brings me all those positive people,” she told the talk show host.

The year prior to speaking with the Chicago native, Miley sang Beyonce’s praises on a red carpet. This marked the first time that she spoke about her in public.

“Beyoncé is here!,” she exclaimed. “My mom’s always telling me ‘What would Beyoncé do?’ So I am excited to meet her tonight.”
