The Story Behind ‘Hold My Hand’ By Lady Gaga For ‘Top Gun: Maverick’

Lady Gaga has unveiled details about her upcoming Top Gun: Maverick theme song, “Hold My Hand.”

The pop superstar made the big announcement via Instagram on April 27. She described the tune as a “love letter to the world.”

Lady Gaga will officially premiere “Hold My Hand” on May 3, just ahead of the Top Gun: Maverick premiere on May 27. The film was famously delayed twice – once in 2019 and then again in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Mother Monster worked alongside famed producers BloodPop and Benjamin Rice on the track. She shared her thanks to her collaborators in addition to the film’s star Tom Cruise, director Joseph Kosinski and the movie’s composer, Hans Zimmer.

“But if you decide to / I’ll ride in this life with you / I won’t let go till the end.”

Lady Gaga on the Creation of ‘Hold My Hand’

“When I wrote this song for Top Gun: Maverick, I didn’t even realize the multiple layers it spanned across. The film’s heart, my own psyche, and the nature of the world we’ve been living in. I’ve been working on it for years, perfecting it, trying to make it ours,” she wrote. “I wanted to make music into a song where we share our deep need to both be understood and try to understand each other. A longing to be close when we feel so far away and an ability to celebrate life’s heroes.”

She thanked Cruise, Zimmer, and Kosinski for the opportunity. The A Star Is Born star shared that it has been a “beautiful experience” working alongside them. The song will be incorporated into the movie’s score, which is being directed by Zimmer and Harold Faltermeyer.

“Me, BloodPop, Ben Rice and everyone else who worked on it with us are so excited to share it with you. This song is a love letter to the world during and after a very hard time. I’ve wanted you to hear it for so long,” she added.

Along with the Instagram post, she teased a line of the song’s lyrics in a series of Instagram Stories. She wrote the lines in a notebook.

Earlier in the week, Gaga began teasing lyrics to the new tune. “Hold my hand everything will be OK I heard from the heavens that clouds have been grey,” her first tweet read. “Pull me close wrap me in your aching arms I see that you’re hurtin’.”

This be the first new music from Lady Gaga since Love For Sale with Tony Bennett.
