Listen & Lyrics: ‘Humble Quest’ By Maren Morris

By  |

Maren Morris did not mess around when it comes to her Humble Quest title track.

The anthemic song was written by Morris alongside Laura Veltz and Jimmy Robbins. The tune served as a reminder of what she went through the last few years with welcoming her first child, grieving the loss of her music partner Busbee, and dealing with the pandemic.

“I’ve been having this moving target for so long, and equating success with accolades and what I’ve achieved,” Maren Morris told Vulture. “That all got wiped away. This whole record and the way it’s titled is about the idea that I don’t know if I’m ever going to reach that destination. That’s why we wrote that line in “Humble Quest”: “I still haven’t found it yet.” I’m doing my best, but I haven’t found it yet — and maybe I never will. Maybe that’s just the dash between your birth and death, just trying to figure it out and being awkward and uncomfortable and curious and joyful throughout.”

Maren Morris ‘Humble Quest’ Lyrics:

Haven’t looked up in a while
Been biting my tongue behind a smile
Falling on swords that I can’t see
Poison my well on the daily

Got easier not to ask
Just kept hitting my head on the glass
I was so nice till I woke up
I was polite till I spoke up

I’m on a humble quest
And damn I do my best
Not gonna hold my breath
‘Cause I still haven’t found it yet
No I still haven’t found it yet

The line between fulfilled and full of myself
I’m trying to find it and I might need some help
Standing up was enough of a battle
How do I not cast a shadow?
I’m a hell of a hassle

I’m on a humble quest
And damn I do my best
Not gonna hold my breath
‘Cause I still haven’t found it yet
No I still haven’t found it yet

I’m on a, I’m on a, I’m on a humble quest
I’m on a, I’m on a, I’m on a humble quest
Not gonna hold my breath

I’m on a humble quest
And damn I do my best
Not gonna hold my breath
‘Cause I still haven’t found it yet, oh

I’m on a humble quest
And damn I do my best
Not gonna hold my breath
‘Cause I still haven’t found it yet
No I still haven’t found it yet
