UPSAHL Honors Women Who ‘Make History’ In New Single

By  |

Taylor Upsahl is the moment.

When we last caught up with the artist, who goes by the moniker UPSAHL, it was the middle of quarantine, she had just dropped her Young Life Crisis EP and she was aching to be able to go on tour to support it.

Flash forward to 2022, UPSAHL is finally on tour, but she’s supporting much more than her EP. Ever so restless, the young artist has indeed since released her debut studio album, Lady Jesus, closely followed by a live album, This Is My First Live Album

And as if that wasn’t enough, in addition to the two records, UPSAHL unveiled today her latest single, “Monica Lewinsky,” via Arista.

With this ode to all the unapologetic women that have been, and are still, being maligned and demonized by the media, UPSAHL hopes to honor them and their strength.

“On first listen, Monica Lewinsky feels like a playful song about people who have made a massive impact on pop culture, and it is that type of song,” she shared. “But writing this song was much more than that for me. In the 90’s and the early 2000’s, women like Monica, Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, and Miley Cyrus were all dragged down by the media under a microscopic spotlight and the court of public opinion simply for living their lives. One of the main reasons I get to feel free existing in a creative industry is because of the bullsh*t that they had to deal with early on in their careers. ‘Monica Lewinsky’ is my ode to them. Thank you for making history.”

The single, that many fans have been able to hear live over the course of the past few months, was released along with an accompanying video directed by George Gallardo Kattah. In the video, UPSAHL puts herself in the shoes of these women and celebrates the way they navigated perfectly through the crowds of frenzied paparazzi and their blinding camera flashes all the while staying 100% true to themselves.

After supporting Yungblud in the U.S. in March, and following her successful run in Europe opening for FLETCHER on her sold-out tour this past month, UPSAHL will return to the U.S. this fall for her first North American headlining tour. And while American fans can already purchase tickets for their run here, European fans won’t have to wait long to see the singer again, for she’s already promised them to return overseas in November.
