This Day In Music

48 years ago today you could turn on your television set and hear the theme of a new tv show starring four young boys trying to make a name for themselves.  The boys called themselves “The Monkees” and they wanted to play rock and roll.  The show starred Peter Tork, Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, and Michael Nesmith who later because of the show, became the real rock band The Monkees.  The show was inspired by a very famous rock band at that time that also had four young guys and a band named after some animals, The Beatles.  When the ad’s came out searching for four fun guys who wanted acting roles in a TV show about Rock and Roll singers, over 400 boys came to audition for the roles. After so many were chosen for screen tests, Raybert Productions chose their final four.
The first episode starts off on a beach with Davy Jones, a total cutie, checking out a pretty girl, who turns out to be a princess.  The show is filled with hilarious slapstick comedy that is just silly goofy with cute 60’s boys. And of course the best part of all of these episodes is the theme song in the beginning!
Here we come, walking down the street
get the funniest looks from, ev’ry one we meet.
Hey hey we’re the Monkees!
And people say we monkey around
But we’re too busy singing
To put anybody down
