LISTEN & LYRICS | Kaitlyn Myers – “hopelessly (un)romantic”

By  |

Kaitlyn Myers is “hopelessly (un)romantic” in new single premiering exclusively on SRS today!

The Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter started growing a solid fanbase after participating in Season 20 of NBC’s The Voice earlier this year and has since received a good amount of support on her TikTok and Instagram pages where she’s been posting her own original music.

The NYU-student has developed a unique sound that bends genres, effortlessly taking inspiration from the vintage sounds of Motown and soul and adding the modern rhythms of today’s pop music.

Following her 2020 debut EP, “Chasing Dopamine” (produced by Shannon McArthur), Myers released a couple of singles, tackling issues that are close to her heart such as mental health and social justice.

Now Myers is back with a new single, “hopelessly (un)romantic.”

“Hopelessly (un)romantic” is an anti-love song written for those who, like myself, don’t quite see romance’s appeal,” Kaitlyn Myers shared. “I wrote it after recognizing that my lack of interest in romance stems from the discomfort I feel being held to that high of a standard. It’s really terrifying to know that someone thinks of you in a romantic way, and it often feels undeserved. Nonetheless, writing this song was such a unique experience. I absolutely loved experimenting with meters, chord progressions, and instrumentation in ways I never had before. I truly believe that writing “hopelessly (un)romantic” changed the way I wrote songs and helped me recognize some of the mental cycles that kept me tied down. Ironically, it really reminded me of why I fell in love with songwriting in the first place!”

KAITLYN MYERS – “HOPELESSLY (UN)ROMANTIC” LYRICS

Sit next to my emotions
Wondering where my devotion lies
My world doesn’t sing when I see your eyes

This cognitive dissonance
Keeps comfortable distance
Between me and myself but I
Find it kinda boring within lines
Lines
Lines

Hopelessly unromantic
Can’t fall in love
I just float right by it
I’m hopelessly unromantic
This pedestal you put me on
Will tumble to the ground
So don’t hold my hand love ‘cause
I will surely drag you down
Hopelessly unromantic
unenchanted somehow

Count petals pulled from daisies
Count reasons you can’t count on me
See the wildflowers scattered on the floor

Oh so many songs are sung for
Romantic antics, loves big great grandeur
Well I find it kinda boring within these lines
Lines
Lines

Hopelessly unromantic
Can’t fall in love
I just float right by it
I’m hopelessly unromantic
This pedestal you put me on
Will tumble to the ground
So don’t hold my hand love ‘cause
I will surely drag you down
Hopelessly unromantic
unenchanted somehow

Lonely with you
Lonely without
I guess the common factor’sme

I can’t feel my heart
It’s cold and it’s dark
In this room but I cannot sleep

When I return to the
Bridges I’ve burned
I find I miss the company

But it’s not fair to you
To treat you like I do
So leave me lonely
Leave me lonely

I’m hopelessly unromantic
Can’t fall in love
I just float right by it
I’m hopelessly unromantic
This pedestal you put me on
Will tumble to the ground
So don’t hold my hand love ‘cause
I will surely drag you down
Hopelessly unromantic, unenchanted
Hopelessly unromantic, unenchanted

Hopelessly unromantic
Unenchanted somehow
