EXCLUSIVE: Leah Kate Interview

By  |
Stage Right Secrets spoke with Leah Kate to learn all about her new album. Read our exclusive Q&A, below.
Congrats on your single and EP. Walk us through the creation of the title track.
The EP is a collection of songs that walk through an evolving relationship / series of bad ideas, finally leading to “Used To This” where I talk about being treated right for the first time.
Were you involved in the concept of the music video?
Yes, absolutely! I helped produce the video with my good friend and we planned the whole thing in under 48 hours!

You have such eye-catching visuals and aesthetic, do visuals play a role in your music?
Absolutely ! Visuals are such an important component and allow people to really feel the vibe and the story of the songs. Especially for this funky love song, the creative atmosphere plays a huge role in it.

How did you go about choosing which tracks would make the cut and the order?
It’s hard. I’m really picky and have hundreds of unreleased songs actually. But when I make one that is truthful and meaningful to me, while also capturing the sound / vibe I’m working towards, I know it’s the right one instantly.

Do you have a favorite lyric off of the album?
“They show up wanting something every night. When you let them in, they let you down.”

Since most of the country is or was in quarantine, what did you do to pass the time? Binge shows, cook, new skills, etc.?
A lot of cooking, eating, watching weird reality tv, writing songs, and I took an online class!

Did you find it easier or harder to be creative while stuck at home?
Much easier! I love writing songs from my bed!
