‘I Deserve A Heartbreak’ Lyrics By Zach John King
Zach John King released his latest single, “I Deserve A Heartbreak,” with some of the most relatable lyrics he’s written yet.
On Friday, March 28, King officially released his new single, in addition to the announcement of his new upcoming EP, Slow Down, on May 23. Fans can now pre-save the 6-track record, which was all co-written by King.
“I Deserve A Heartbreak” will be featured on Slow Down, along with the title track and other new music. Ryan Wilson produced the record, which features influences of country, indie rock, and singer-songwriter. The album will tell a story from various stages of heartbreak.
“I wrote ‘I Deserve A Heartbreak’ about how breakups are rarely fair,” King said in a press release. “One person always seems to carry more of the pain, and I’ve realized they don’t break evenly. We wanted to write a song that asks—if everything shook out fairly and I got back exactly what I gave—would I deserve the same heartbreak that I caused? It’s a classic country story told from a fresh perspective, and we’re really proud of the production. I pulled in a lot of my indie rock influences on this one, and there’s a huge breakdown in the middle that feels really unique… I don’t think you’ll hear this sound anywhere else.”
I Deserve A Heartbreak Lyrics By Zach John King
There’s a man standing in the mirror where a wild boy used to be
That’s done some wising up from him you treating you that way
Let you rain down all the tears, mascara on them sheets
Let you think it was all your fault when I’m the one to blame
What goes around comes around baby right now
My whole world would be headed South
I deserve me a heartbreak
Straight up breaking down in the driveway
Barely getting by in the bed I made wide awake
Might need a dose of my own medicine
Get a taste of the place I left you in, alright
After watching you go find someone else
Yeah, I deserve me a heartbreak
I deserve me a heartbreak
