Hardy Interview On 2022 ACM Awards Nominations: VIDEO

By  |

Hardy is ready to have a good time at the 2022 ACM Awards.

The famed songwriter turned artist is nominated for New Male Artist of the Year as well as Songwriter of the Year.

“When I found out I was nominated, the night before. I’ve been out with Morgan Wallen on the road. I was extremely hungover and I woke up a little later than I usually do. I checked my phone and I had like 100 texts that just said “congratulations” and I had no idea what that was about so I had to scroll forever to find out it was for the ACM noms.”

He added, “I just thought it was funny and I had no idea – I didn’t know I was going to be nominated. I didn’t even have a hunch and no one told me I might be nominated so it was very cool and a nice surprise.”

Las Vegas is lit up at Allegiant Stadium and is ready to host the biggest names in country music. But for Hardy, it’s all about reuniting with his friends.

“The spirit is great,” he said of the whirlwind weekend. “One of my favorite things about all of this is that very seldomly do artists who are friends. Nashville is a small town, it’s a small community. Very seldom do people get to see each other at the same time and the same place all together. That to me, the buzz around all that, that’s so huge for people to get to celebrate with people and to run into people. I love the comradery that so many artists have and I think that’s the most special part about it.”

Hardy on ACMs Hosts and His 2022 Plans

This year, Dolly Parton, Jimmie Allen, and Gabby Barrett are hosting the ACM Awards. We can definitely count on some comedy and jokes in their presentation.

“Jimmie’s gotta have some jokes. He’s a funny guy, he better have some jokes,” Hardy said. “I’m going to be mad at him if he doesn’t. And Dolly is kind of a jokester too – that’s my favorite part. I remember a while back, I think Paisley or somebody did – I can’t remember who hosted but there was a little bit of a roast of a few of the artists, I’d like to see that come back and I think that that’s funny. But I’m excited – good for them! It’s a huge honor to be such a young artist and to get that position with such an icon like Dolly, that’s so cool.”

After the ACMs, he is headed back on tour and is thrilled to hit the road once again.

“I’m touring until the end of September with Morgan Wallen,” he added. “We are 3 weeks into the tour now and the shows have been insane. I’ve got some music coming out – possibly a lot of music coming out. And hopefully, in a perfect world, we’ll be able to get married sometime maybe end of October, early November. It’s going to be a monumental year for me for sure and I’m excited. To answer your question, no I will not have a lot of downtime. I strategically have taken a few days off here and there so I’ll fit some fishing in or some golf or something.”
