FLETCHER Shares Her Truth With New Single, “Boy”
There’s nothing quite as scary as sharing your full self with the world when it’s only seen a part of you for the last decade, and yet that’s exactly what singer-songwriter Cari Fletcher is doing with her new single, “Boy.”
The singer, who had been MIA from social media since the end of her In Search Of The Antidote world tour last spring, made a poignant come back to her platforms a few days ago in a love letter to the queer community.
“what an honor it is to be queer. it is truly one of my life’s biggest gifts that has allowed me to live with such an open heart and curiosity about all the ways it wants to be expressed, held & celebrated,” the singer wrote, alongside a black and white photo of herself, smiling at the camera.
The following day, the 31-year-old posted a teaser of her upcoming project, which she described as “both an open wound and an act of liberation,” before sharing the title and release date today.
Fletcher’s third full-length album, ‘Would You Still Love Me If You Really Knew Me?’, is set to release on July 18th via Capitol Records.
The album annoucement arrives alongside the new single ‘Boy’, which was co-produced by FLETCHER and Jennifer Decilveo, and co-written with Shane McAnally.
“I kissed a boy,” the Jersey-native shares in the song. “And I know it’s not what you wanted to hear / And it wasn’t on your bingo card this year / Well it wasn’t on mine / I fell in love.”
While the news of Fletcher dating a man may have come as a shock to some newer fans, since the artist’s only ever been publicly involved with women since she started her career, long-time fans saw it as an ode to freedom, a way for Cari, the person behind the persona, to embrace her full self.
In addition to the announcement, Fletcher also shared that, through June 30th 2025, 100% of the proceeds from the sale of her new ‘Boy’ merchandising would be donated to Trans Lifeline — a trans-led organization that connects trans people to the community, support, and resources they need to survive and thrive.
