This year, the viral pop star is nominated for Record of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance for “Say So.” Additionally, she is nominated for the coveted all-genre Best New Artist award. “It feels crazy. It feels like everything I’ve been doing is… being heard and understood,” Doja Cat said. “And they heard the way that I want to hear it. I’ve been doing this for so long. I’m very very very grateful.”

How She Discovered Her Nominations

“I remember someone calling me in the morning it was 9 AM,” Doja cat remembered. She admitted that she had a really long night and wasn’t quite ready for the news. “I think I freaked out and I was like, ‘Why are you calling me?'” Once she called her team back, she was pleasantly surprised.

Doja Cat admitted that her goal wasn’t to win awards, but to make music. She never imagined that people would be able to get to enjoy her art. “This is like a million steps ahead of that and that’s why I’m just like blown away.”

Finally, as for her sure to be a memorable performance, she said that it will be colorful and mysterious. “I’m in full Tomb Raider gear right now,” she pointed out. “It’s definitely giving like action film [vibe].”
