Reiyo The Giant Delivers a Cinematic, Emotionally Driven Debut With ‘Trick Of The Night’

Reiyo The Giant is introducing listeners to a world entirely her own with the release of her debut album, Trick Of The Night, available now via Safari Riot. The Bronx-born, Atlanta-based artist blends alternative R&B, soul, ambient, and electronic influences across the 10-track project, creating a cinematic listening experience centered on love, loss, personal growth, and the complicated emotions that come with change.

At its core, Trick Of The Night is an exploration of how life experiences can transform our understanding of the world. Reiyo approaches the record through the concept of a familiar house that gradually begins to feel unfamiliar, using each track to represent another stage in an emotional journey. The album opens with “Nu World,” an electronic-driven introduction that establishes the project’s immersive atmosphere. From there, songs including “How To Get Nowhere Fast,” “Into The Wind,” and “Trick of the Night” help guide listeners through the record’s evolving narrative.

Throughout the project, Reiyo’s artistic vision is supported by atmospheric production, hypnotic synthesizers, and spacious arrangements that give the music a cinematic quality. Producer Anwar Sawyer plays an important role in shaping the album’s overall sound, while electronic duo breathe. contributes production to “Get It Together” and the closing track, “Lullaby.” The result is a project that prioritizes mood, storytelling, and creative exploration rather than adhering to the expectations of any single genre.

One of the most interesting elements of Trick Of The Night is its sequencing. Reiyo envisioned the album as a hero’s journey, drawing inspiration from what she calls a “reverse Wizard of Oz moment.” Rather than moving from a muted world into one filled with color, the record begins in a vivid, expansive space before gradually becoming more subdued and disorienting. The concept reflects the emotional complexities of growing older, experiencing loss, and discovering that the people, places, and memories we once understood can take on entirely different meanings over time.

“This album represents a commitment to myself and the life I had to experience in order to live and write each song,” Reiyo explains. “As my debut, it feels indicative of my journey, my sound and my ability to honor every version of myself that has loved, grieved and moved through the discomfort of trying to figure it all out.”

That personal connection is what gives the project its emotional foundation. Reiyo’s journey to this release has been years in the making. Following her self-produced 2021 EP, Romeo, she continued expanding her musical identity through electronic experimentation and collaborations with artists and producers including Airmow and breathe. Her collaboration with Airmow, “CARMEN,” has accumulated more than 15 million streams, while her music has received support from Spotify’s New Music Friday and Fresh Finds playlists, Apple Music’s New Music Daily, and publications including VICE, Ones To Watch, NOTION, and KALTBLUT. With Trick Of The Night, those experiences come together in her most expansive artistic statement to date.

The album concludes with “Lullaby,” providing a moment of calm following the emotional journey that unfolds throughout the record. It’s a thoughtful ending to a debut that explores the uncertainty of change without insisting that every question needs an answer. What makes Trick Of The Night stand out is Reiyo’s commitment to building an atmosphere and narrative that feel uniquely hers. The project introduces an artist willing to experiment with sound, embrace vulnerability, and approach storytelling from an unconventional perspective.

As Reiyo The Giant begins this next chapter of her career, Trick Of The Night serves as a compelling introduction to her creative vision and the possibilities of where she could take it next.
