Pearl Jam absolutely rocked their headlining set at Mad Cool Festival 2024.

The annual festival took place at Iberdrola Music in Madrid, Spain with fans lining up hours before the band would take the stage, just to get a spot on the coveted barricade. After numerous sets, the band took the main stage to perform on Thursday, July 11. They kicked things off with “Lukin” followed by “Corduroy,” with their crowd going absolutely wild and jumping to the drum beat.

Frontman Eddie Vedder told the crowd that they felt like old friends. You’ll recall that the first time the band performed in Madrid was back in 1992. He also took the time to note just how palpable and enjoyable the energy and crowd were for the show. They also took the time to acknowledge some special people and even dedicated a couple of songs. “Unthought Known” was dedicated to Javier Bardem while “Better Man” was dedicated to Miguel Rios. The first of which being a debut song for their current Dark Matter World Tour.

Despite their impressive catalog of countless hits and new releases with their latest record, they took the time to put their own spin on a classic. Their rendition of “Rockin’ in the Free World,” originally recorded by Neil Young, was unique twist.

The synergy between Vedder, guitarist Mike McCready, bassist Jeff Ament, drummer Matt Cameron, and guitarist Stone Gossard was nothing short of mesmerizing. This is a true testament to their decades-long chemistry. While some of the fans have attended Pearl Jam shows in the past, their performance proves just how much they are able to keep their fans engaged and wanting more.

Pearl Jam wrapped up their legendary 21-song set by performing “Yellow Ledbetter,” to the delight of the crowd. In just under an hour, the five members cemented themselves as international rock legends and a force to be reckoned with.
