Colbie Caillat teamed up with Russell Dickerson to grace fans with “If You Love Me Let Me Go.”

On Friday, April 4, the country music artists premiered their collaboration. The single was written by Caillat alongside Jamie Scott, John Ryan, and Julian Bunetta. The tune tells the story of a couple that are stuck in a cycle of breaking up and making up, not able to move on.

“I’ve experienced this after a breakup,” Caillat admitted. “Painfully immersed in the cycle of that person coming in and out of your life. If you love each other, then work on it together. But there comes a time when real love also means you know when to let them go.”

After the song was completed, Caillat realized that it also called for a male vocalist. She immediately thought of Dickerson to sing the other half of the single.

“I’ve been friends with Russell for many years now and I’m also a fan of his music and artistry,” she shared. “I knew this story would be best told through two voices, and he’s perfect for it.”

“First off, I’ve always been a huge fan of Colbie!,” Dickerson said. “So, when she asked me to join her on this song, I was honestly blown away. Her music is timeless, and she’s truly the voice of a generation. Being part of something like this is such an honor and a pleasure!”
