Texas-based country-rock duo Bottomland blends southern rock swagger with raw, honest storytelling in new single “Sorry State,” available everywhere now. Known for their electrifying live shows and heartfelt songwriting, Cannon Brand and Justin Lane Gates continue to carve their place in the country-rock scene with this unforgettable new release.

“Sorry State” is a restless, soul-searching anthem that follows the lonely trail of a lost love from Texas to Tennessee. With vivid lyrics and a road-weary melody, the song captures the ache of regret and the longing to go back to where it all went wrong. The line “I bounce around from town to town / Still ain’t got where I need to be” hits like a punch to the gut, echoing the bittersweet reality of trying to right your wrongs when it’s already too late.

“The second we heard that title, we knew there was something special there,” adds Gates. “It captures so much—being in a rough emotional place, life on the road, and the weight of regret. It’s one of our favorite songs we’ve ever written.”

The song was born during Bottomland’s first trip to Nashville, where inspiration struck in the writing room. “We walked in with a head full of ideas, just trying to find the one that felt honest,” says Brand. “Cannon brought up flipping the usual heartbreak script—what if the song wasn’t about someone doing you wrong, but about owning up to being the reason they left?

Led by singer-songwriters Cannon Brand and Justin Lane Gates, Bottomland’s sound is a gritty, high-energy collision of storytelling and rebellion. Since their debut on March 7, 2025, they’ve seen a meteoric rise—currently clocking in at nearly 230,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and racking up over 1 million streams on their breakout single “Over You, Over It.”

Their momentum has already landed them on some of the platform’s biggest editorial playlists, including HomegrownAll New CountryFresh Finds Country, and Next From Nashville. On the live front, they’re hitting the ground running, with major festival performances lined up at Tanglefoot FestivalLarry Joe Taylor’s 36th Annual Texas Music Festival, and Bulls, Bands, and Barrels.

Both personal and universally relatable, “Sorry State” showcases Bottomland’s ability to blur the line between honky-tonk grit and heartfelt introspection, making it a must-listen for fans of modern country and southern rock alike.
