All About R&B at the Grammys

The Grammy Awards, presented annually by The Recording Academy, are one of the most prestigious accolades in the music industry. Within the Grammy Awards, the category for Best R&B Album recognizes outstanding quality and achievement in R&B music albums. Since its inception, this category has honored many talented R&B artists and their remarkable albums.

From 2003 to 2011, the Grammy Awards introduced a separate category called Best Contemporary R&B Album to honor albums with a more contemporary R&B sound. However, after the 2011 Grammy season, it was decided to merge this category back into the Best R&B Album category, allowing for a broader representation of the genre’s excellence.

In the past five years, the prestigious accolade has been awarded to Burna Boy (2021), Chris Brown (2020), H.E.R. (2019), Bruno Mars (2018) and D’Angelo and The Vanguard (2017).
