What is the meaning behind the new single from FLETCHER, ‘Eras Of Us’?

In December 2023, singer-songwriter FLETCHER gave her fans a sweet surprise, a new single after a year of no music, ‘Eras Of Us.’

“Eras Of Us” was first teased through a series of Tiktok videos, that have since gone mute following Universal Music Group’s decision to remove their entire catalog from the platform on February 1, 2024. 

The upbeat single marked the now 30-year-old’s return to music after the postponement of her European tour following her Lyme Disease diagnosis.

WHO WROTE “ERAS OF US”?

FLETCHER, Jennifer Decilveo, Jeremy “Kinetics” Dussolliet, and Tim “One Love” Sommers are credited as songwriters on “Eras of Love”.

While promoting her album In Search Of The Antidote, which is out today (March 22) via Capital Records, FLETCHER told the story of how “Eras Of Us” came to life.

“I was lucky enough to see The Eras Tour this summer,” the singer explained, having attended one of the three Taylor Swift’s tour stops at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ in May 2023. “And I ran into someone from my past who was a great love.”

The night of the show, fans attending the Eras Tour along with the singer were indeed quick to share footage online of her hugging hello and chatting with director Shannon Beveridge, whom she dated from 2016 to 2020. 

“Being at the same show and knowing that we were both scream singing all the lyrics written by an artist who has narrated so many of the romances throughout my life, the eras of our relationship rose and hit me like a wave,” FLETCHER shared about the creative process of the song. “But water can’t ever be held, and writing this song was my best attempt at creating the container to capture that moment in time even if it was the closing of a chapter.”

Said chapter, which lasted far beyond the couple’s breakup, included several creative collaborations between the singer and the director, including The S(ex) Tapes EP (2020), for which the queer Youtuber did the entire creative direction and photographing.
