ALBUM REVIEW | Yungblud – Idols
British singer-songwriter Yungblud breaks down the idea of fame and hero worship in his brand new album Idols, out now via Locomotion Recordings/Capital Records.
This first part of a two-album project, entirely produced by Matt Schwartz, is more emotional and theatrical compared to his usual loud, pop-punk style.
The nine-minute opener and lead single, “Hello Heaven, Hello“, blends rock and orchestral sounds with strong, emotional vocals. It gives the feeling that the artist is stepping into a new version of himself.
Meanwhile, the title tracks “Idols Pt. I” and “Idols Pt. II” form the heart of the project. They were inspired by a fan who once told Yungblud he had saved their life. That moment affected him and led to the idea that we must b the idols in our own lives.
Later in the album, the ballad “Zombie” brings an emotional shift. Written five years ago during his grandmother’s recovery, the song explores the fear of being a burden. The music video, starring Florence Pugh, highlights the strength and resilience nurses show every day.
The rest of the album blends different styles. “Lovesick Lullaby” and “Ghosts” are soft, emotional, and reflective. In contrast, “The Greatest Parade“, “Monday Murder“, “Fire“, and “War” bring back the artist’s signature loud, punk-pop sound.
Yungblud closes the album with “Supermoon”, a secret song that his longtime producer Matt Schwartz kept from him. “He saw a 15-year-old kid come into his studio, who he kicked out because he had nothing to say. I came back a year later as YUNGBLUD.” the artist told Apple Music.
The “Idols World Tour“ kicks off in Los Angeles in August 2025 and ends in October in small venues across North America, UK and Europe. In Spring 2026, the tour expands to arenas in the UK, with shows in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds, Cardiff, Birmingham, and Dublin.
Idols is honest, ambitious, and important to its creator. It feels like the first half of something big, and if this is just the beginning, the second half of the project will be something special as well.
