Phoenix Laoutaris Finds Her Confidence on New Single “Here We Go”

By  |

Phoenix Laoutaris is back with “Here We Go,” and this time around, she’s seeing things a little more clearly.

The British singer’s latest blends R&B, soul and funk into a track about realizing you’ve stayed in a situation longer than you probably should have. There’s self-doubt in the song, and some loneliness too, but “Here We Go” doesn’t feel defeated. If anything, it sounds like Phoenix finally reaching the point where she knows she deserves better.

She gets right to it with the opening line, “Talkin’ to myself again / Cause I lost all my friends since you came around.”

It’s a pretty brutal way to start a song, but Phoenix’s warm vocal against the funkier production keeps it from feeling too heavy. As the track goes on, she sounds more sure of herself, even slipping into a rap-leaning delivery that brings out a different side of her.

“Here We Go” follows “About You,” released in July. That single landed Phoenix on the cover of Audiomack’s +44 R&B playlist and picked up support from VIBE, NME, VIPER and Atwood Magazine.

The two songs also make an interesting pair. “About You” was wrapped up in the possibility of something new. “Here We Go” feels like the other side of that story — when enough time has passed to look back and recognize what wasn’t working.

Phoenix, who grew up in Totnes, Devon, first caught attention with her 2021 debut “Flowers.” Released through WEAREBLK, the song earned praise from CLASH Magazine and support from BBC Radio 1’s Future Artists with Jack Saunders, DJ Target and René LaVice.

With “Here We Go,” it feels like Phoenix is settling into this new chapter without trying too hard to define it. The sound is soulful, a little gritty and increasingly confident.

And if these last two singles are any indication, there’s plenty more to come.
