The track was recorded at Shangri La Studios, Angelic Studios, and Henson Studios. Styles co-wrote the song alongside Kid Harpoon and Tyler Johnson, who also co-produced the tune.

In a recent interview with Howard Stern, Harry Styles confirmed that despite fan speculation, the song was not inspired by Taylor Swift.

“You’re reading too much into it,” he told the radio host. “You know I’d love to tell you that you’re spot on, but I can’t. No, sorry.” 

Styles explained that “Daylight” was an early song for the record and counts it as one of his personal favorites. He described the session as a “stream of consciousness.”

“This very much felt like, ‘Okay, we have to find a way to finish this. Now,’” he recalled. They ended up recording the song all night and were able to celebrate by watching the sunrise on a beach.
