EXCLUSIVE: Sydney Quiseng on Releasing Her EP 9 Months Pregnant

By  |

Sydney Quiseng (nee Sierota) is less than two weeks away from giving birth to her first child and is promoting her second EP. We got to chat with the “Cool Kids” singer on it all from pregnancy cravings, to womanhood, and of course new music!

What has promoting an album 9 months pregnant been like?

It’s been super fun and a very unique experience. A lot of people warned me that I’d be really tired and they were not wrong! I’m used to moving at a 100 miles an hour, so it’s been interesting to learn how to slow down and prioritize my health while also promoting new music. That’s My Baby! is so obviously connected to what I’m currently going through in my personal life so it has felt natural to roll out this EP while growing a human!

Have you had any cravings, or anything surprised you about pregnancy?

I’ve been obsessed with fruit my entire pregnancy! It’s so crazy how entertaining being pregnant is. Everything is changing so rapidly and I love getting to experience all the little changes as they come.

You’ve spoken about people warning you that starting a family would “end your career.” I have seen people judging celebrities like Lily Collins and Priyanka Chopra Jonas for having babies via surrogacy. It’s madness! What do you hope other women — especially artists — take away from watching you step into motherhood so publicly and unapologetically?

I hope me sharing my journey with becoming a mom and how excited I am can inspire other people. I truly believe you can live out more than one dream at the same time. I’ve even been able to prove to myself that that’s true as I’m making and releasing music while extremely pregnant! I can’t wait to meet my baby girl and see how beautifully my life opens up with her in it.

We all know your family is musical. [I was a massive fan of your husband’s band in high school.] Would you want your daughter to get into the family business?

I genuinely want my daughter to do something she loves. She’ll of course be surrounded by music as she grows up because that’s a big part of who I am, so if she falls in love with it too, then I’ll absolutely support her in that. But I want to be intentional with helping her pursue whatever makes her most happy, no matter what path that is!

Speaking of which, any possibility for some Echosmith music on the horizon?

Yes! We’ve been quietly writing new Echosmith music and I’m excited to get in the studio with my brothers after some good time off with my baby.

Is there a possibility for a full-length LP on the horizon or even tour?

I love the concept of making a full album and have every intention to do so one day! I’ve written so many songs for my solo project so I have ideas of what a full-length record could look like… More than anything, I love getting to create music so whether it’s singles, EPs or an album, I fully plan to make and release lots of music when I’m back at it.

I know you and your husband travel a lot to Japan, and you even wrote a song partially in Japanese. Is a Japanese side project something you’d ever consider?

You never know! I’d love to do a collab with a Japanese artist and a Japanese brand one day. One of my big life goals is to be fluent in Japanese, so I’ll keep working on that and see what happens!

Lastly: What have you been watching, reading, and listening to lately?

Recently I read Fourth Wing, Iron Flame and Onyx Storm and really loved it. I usually lean toward physiological thrillers or romance dramas (I love Freida McFadden) but it was fun to mix it up with a fantasy romance. I’m loving Joshua Slone’s new album and I’m still loving Older (and Wiser) by Lizzy McAlpine.
