With its soul-infused country production and relatable storytelling, “Over You Feels Like” captures the lingering ache of a relationship that refuses to fade with time. Anchored by vivid imagery of endless highways, stiff drinks, and the uphill battle of moving on, the song explores the frustrating reality of doing everything you can to leave someone behind, only to find yourself still searching for what being “over it” actually feels like.
“Some songs take time to reveal themselves, but ‘Over You Feels Like’ felt different from the start,” shares Hicks. “Brock, Colton, and I wanted to capture a timeless feeling that reminded me of some of the records I grew up loving from artists like Billy Currington and Brett Eldredge. I believe we accomplished that, and I’m proud to finally share it with people. The song tells a story I’ve lived through, and I know many others have, too. It’s about that space between heartbreak and healing, the place where you’re trying your best to move forward, but still find yourself looking back.”
Written by Hicks alongside acclaimed songwriters Colton Venner (Jon Pardi, The Band Perry, Larry Fleet, Gavin Adcock) and Brock Berryhill (Kane Brown, Kenny Chesney, Justin Moore), the track pairs thoughtful lyricism with a warm, contemporary country sound. Berryhill also co-produced the song with Andy Sheridan (Avery Anna, Dustin Lynch, Rascal Flatts), creating a polished yet organic backdrop that allows Hicks’ emotive vocal delivery to shine.
A Kentucky native now based in Nashville, Hicks has immersed himself in the city’s songwriting community since relocating in 2021, refining his craft alongside some of Music Row’s most respected creatives. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Chris Stapleton, Brett Eldredge, Jordan Davis, and Morgan Wallen, he has developed a sound that blends classic country storytelling with Southern soul influences, delivered through a rich and unmistakable vocal style.
That commitment to his artistry led to a publishing deal with Tape Room Music in 2025, marking a significant milestone in his career. Alongside his growing success as a songwriter, Hicks has become a sought-after performer on the festival circuit, appearing at major events including Rock The Country, Tailgate N’ Tallboys, and Rock The South. Now, with the release of “Over You Feels Like,” he continues to build momentum as one of country music’s promising new voices, connecting with listeners through songs rooted in authenticity, vulnerability, and real-life experience.
