Best Music Cities- Which City Takes The Crown?

By  |

There’s nothing better than experiencing live music. Getting to hear your favorite artist play their music is an incredible moment. While some of the top billing artists may play large venues, there’s something intimate and special about a smaller, under-the-radar live music space. These hidden gems can be found around the country, and this list of America’s Best Music Cities made us want to plan our next getaway.

According to Rave Reviews, the #1 best music city in the country is Portland, Oregon. Portland has heard the music of countless artists, from the Dandy Warhols to The Decemberists. One of the city’s most underrated venues is a hybrid sandwich shop and music venue called Bunk Bar. Many of today’s best young artists love to play Bunk Bar, with a music calendar tending toward indie rock and pop.

While cities with prolific music scenes including Memphis, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Chicago, made the list, there are some live music hotspots that you might not hear about every day. One such city is Omaha, Nebraska. Within the downtown area, you’ll find Lookout Lounge, an acclaimed dive bar that’s not afraid to push the limits. Frequent show attendees say The Lookout “is the best spot to catch a local band, your favorite national touring band, or just hang out and play a game of pool or darts.”
