Artist To Watch: Melanie Martinez!

Our second Artist To Watch of 2013 is Melanie Martinez, you may recognize her from the Voice on Team Adam (Blake, Adam, and Cee lo turned for her.)  She was known for her renditions of different songs and her smooth voice.  Even though she’s only seventeen she’s sure to become a house hold name.

SRS: Did you watch the premiere episodes of The Voice, and if so what did you think about the new talent?

Melanie: Yes, briefly towards the end. To me Adam has a professional artist in Judith Hill but Blake knows how to market his contestants so look out for 16 year old Danielle Bradbery. I like when younger talent gets a chance to show what they can do without all the tour and backup singing experience.

SRS: What’s next for you?

Melanie: What’s next is continuing my studio time to release my EP or LP, more live shows, private events, etc!

SRS: With all of the music success do you still plan on furthering your photography career?

Melanie: Yes, I’m still doing photo shoots and possibly getting them in an art gallery, stay tuned!

SRS:What are some of your most played artists on your Ipod?

Melanie: Most played artist is Angus & Julia Stone, The xx, Joshua Radin, Mumford & Sons, marina and the diamonds, portishead, neutral milk hotel, margot and the nuclear so & so’s, ben howard, the kooks, Lana Del Rey, Gregory & The Hawk, Fiona Apple, Regina Spektor, Ed Sheeran, Feist, etc.

SRS:When can we expect new music out?

Melanie: I’m hoping my new music comes out by the summer!

SRS: Do you still keep in touch with the cast of season 3?

Melanie: Yes I do, I’m actually doing a singer songwriter showcase in NY at The Rockwood on April 20 with Bryan Keith, Adriana Louise and Suzanne Choffel.

SRS: Where is the weirdest place you’ve written a song?

Melanie: I guess the weirdest place for most people (not for me) is my bathroom! That’s also my place for my youtube videos as well lol.
