ALBUM REVIEW | Benson Boone – American Heart
Announced during his first Coachella, Benson Boone ’s sophomore album American Heart, out now, is as bold as it is personal, and it sure makes it sound like the 22 year-old singer already knows who he is.
Released on June 20th, 2025, the project is compact but layered: 10 tracks, fully co-written by Benson Boone and his longtime collaborator Jack LaFrantz during an intense 17-day creative session. The production, handled by Jason Evigan, Jason Suwito, Malay, and Evan Blair, blends pop, rock, and glittery 80s retro influences.
The emotional center of this album is the story behind “Young American Heart”, the title track: Boone survived a near death car crash as a teenager, with his best friend Eric, that made him realise that life is fragile and that the people in his life matter.
Perfect exhibits of his mindset, Boone’s latest single “Mr Electric Blue” is a synth-pop track about how much he idolises his father, while “Momma Song” strips things back for a soft, acoustic and heart-wrenching love letter to his mother.
The other tracks also show how thoughtfully the album was made. “Man in Me” and “Reminds Me of You” are songs that focus more on emotions than vocal power while “Wanted Man” brings a bit of sharpness, with a darker sound and more attitude. “Take Me Home” and “I Wanna Be the One You Call” stand out as two of the most passionate songs on the album.
American Heart reached the first place on iTunes in 16 countries during its first 24 hours, thanks in large part to the success of the lead single “Sorry I’m Here for Someone Else” that took the 30th position in the Billboard Hot 100, marking his second-highest U.S. charting single after “Beautiful Things”.
The singer will be kicking off his American Heart World Tour this August, with over 50 stops in arenas across the U.S. and Europe. Boone is stepping into a bigger spotlight and American Heart shows he’s more than ready for it.
