2021 MTV EMA: See The Winners!
The 2021 MTV EMA happened over the weekend and we’ve got your full list of winners!
Hosted by rapper Saweetie in Budapest, Hungary, the MTV Europe Music Awards featured performances by Ed Sheeran, Yungblud, Kim Petras, and more.
The celebration included a few wins for LGBTQ+ folks: while Kim Petras made history as the first transgender singer to perform at the show, five young LGBTQ+ activists also received the MTV EMA Generation Change Award, an award launched in 2018 recognizing “fearless, original young people who are tackling the world’s toughest problems through music, storytelling or digital media.” It was the first time Hungary hosted the event, and the organizers used the opportunity to take a stance against the country which just passed a new law banning the depiction of homosexuality or sex reassignment to under-18s.
As for nominations, Justin Bieber led the race, having gathered a total of eight nods, followed closely by Doja Cat and Lil Nas X with six each. However, during the show, all eyes were on the seven-piece K-Pop group BTS, who brought home four wins this year, thus becoming the most-awarded group in the show’s history with a total of 14 wins.
