ALBUM REVIEW | Alexander Stewart – What if?

By  |

Singer-songwriter Alexander Stewart returns with his second studio album, What If?, out October 24, 2025. The project features standout singles “Here Again,” “Blame On You,” and “Scared Of Myself,” marking a new chapter in his sound and storytelling.

Back in August, Stewart shared that the songs came from a period of uncertainty — a time when he questioned his choices, his path, and even himself. But through the process of writing, he found perspective.

“I spent so much of last year second-guessing everything,” he explained. “But the more I wrote, the more I realized that maybe things weren’t falling apart — maybe they were just falling into place.”

Produced by Adam Yaron, Andrew Goldstein, Joe Reeves, Josh Murty, Phil Cook, TMS and Whakaio Taahi What If? captures the balance between doubt and growth, fear and hope.

The record opens in uncertainty. “Not Ready Yet” and “Pathetic” are pure confessionals — fragile, and aware of their own flaws. “Scared of Myself” takes that vulnerability further, diving into the darker corners of his own mind. The stripped-down production make it one of the album’s most heartbreaking tracks.

Much of What If? circles around the fact that love that doesn’t come easy. “Friends Don’t,” featuring his longtime friend Lauren Spencer Smith, captures that confusing middle ground between love and friendship. “Here Again” and “Need You More” are about missing someone, even when you know it might not be good for you.

But by the time he hits “Blame On You, something shifts. It’s louder, more confident, like he’s finally stopped apologizing for everything that went wrong. You can feel it in his voice — not angry, just done.

The second half of the record feels older, wiser. In “The Way a Heart Breaks” and “Good Things Go,” Stewart accepts that some things end because they’re meant to. In “The Boy I Almost Was,” he looks back at the versions of himself he’s left behind, and with “Older,” he ends the album by embracing that sense of calm acceptance.

What If? feels like Alexander Stewart’s most personal and grounded work so far. It’s not trying to reinvent pop music, it’s trying to tell the truth. He will bring his questions and answers around the world on his first world tour starting this November 13th in Manchester, UK and ending it next year in LA.
