Jonas Brothers 20th Anniversary Tour Concert Review

By  |

Jonas Brothers kicked off their twentieth anniversary tour with a hint of nostalgia, hometown pride, and all of the pyro.

What makes this band so indescribably special is noticeable only when you truly look into the crowd. The audience defies generations, with grandparents, parents, teens, and children. Halfway through the concert, even the significant others who were forced to attend the concert can be seen jamming out and shamelessly singing along to one of their hits. To see the fans’ faces light up with admiration at a band who has quite literally grown up alongside them is something that you can’t accurately convey the meaning of.

On Sunday, August 10, the trio performed the first of their 52 concerts on the Jonas 20: Greetings From Your Hometown Tour. The first show was in their home state of New Jersey at MetLife Stadium. For those who couldn’t make the show in person, Samsung produced the first of five concert livestreams for the tour.

Prior to the actual stadium concert, Kevin, Joe, and Nick took the time to celebrate their new album’s release. They held a Q&A for fans at American Dream prior to the show. The fans turned up in custom merchandise along with classic shirts from as far back as 2007.

The show began with a sentimental film featuring some of the band’s best moments. Instead of the band’s usual flair for an upbeat intro, the band took the stage and walked out to the main catwalk. The crowd rejoiced and immediately began screaming even louder when the acoustic notes of “Lovebug” were played.

“My name is Nick Jonas and Wyckoff, New Jersey is my hometown,” Nick Jonas told the stadium audience. He spoke about how their father, Kevin Sr., would introduce them to the musician greats while growing up down the road.

Family Ties and Fan Connections

Joe took notice of the hundreds if not thousands of posters in the audience. Fans from Poland, Brazil, Mexico, and Australia were seen holding their country’s flags proudly. During “Little Bird,” a sentimental song about being a parent, Joe called out a special couple. They made a poster asking the band to do the gender reveal for their baby. Joe revealed Lucas and Patricia are having a baby boy, and even performed their requested song, “Summer Baby.”

The two-and-a-half hour concert acted like a time capsule with their latest releases, early beginnings, collaborators, along with their side projects. They even listened to fan feedback to perform more of their deep cuts in addition to music from projects that they haven’t played in years. Even songs from Camp Rock with their former co-star and touring mate, Demi Lovato.

One of the highlight moments was the final song, “When You Look Me In The Eyes.” The three brothers invited their little brother, Frankie, along with their parents, Denise and Kevin Sr., to the stage. The family performed their hit song with Kevin Sr. on piano and background vocals along with Frankie on backup vocals. Denise performed the song in American Sign Language for the crowd. Moments later, Kevin Jr.’s wife, Danielle, and daughters, Alena and Valentina came to sit at the piano bench. This was truly a family affair that brought tears to so many fans’ eyes.

This show brings an A-level production with live vocals and music that will bring you into the Jonas family. From diehard fans to casual listeners and those there to support the Jo Bro loving fan in their life, Greetings From Your Hometown Tour is all about bringing the family together to enjoy quality music.
