The Story Behind ‘Daylight’ By Harry Styles
Fans were convinced that Harry Styles wrote “Daylight” about Taylor Swift, but he set the story straight.
On May 18, the “Watermelon Sugar” singer stopped by The Howard Stern Show to promote his upcoming record, Harry’s House. After the Sirius XM host heard the song “Daylight,” he addressed fan speculation that the song was inspired by his ex Taylor Swift, who released a song of the same name for her 2019 album, Lover.
“Here we go,” Harry Styles joked. Stern pressed to find out if the song was, in fact, about the fellow pop star.

Who is ‘Daylight’ About?
“You’re reading too much into it,” Harry Styles said of the track’s title. “You know I’d love to tell you that you’re spot on, but I can’t. No, sorry.”
When Stern said that he wonders who the woman is that denied his advances, Harry had the best response. “We will always wonder,” Styles added.
“‘Daylight’ was quite an early song on the album,” he shared. It was it’s one of my favorites and it was kind of a stream of consciousness writing that happened kind of late. This very much felt like, ‘Okay, we have to find a way to finish this. Now.'”
Harry Styles and his collaborators, Kid Harpoon and Tyler Johnson pulled an all-nighter to finish the song, which was recorded at Shangri La Studios, Angelic Studios, and Henson Studios.
“We finished it. Went out to the beach to watch the sun come up,” he recalled. “And it was a nice moment.”
Styles later explained that his songs start off as an idea from a current experience.
“Most of the time when I write songs they kind of start out as, like, I guess mine,” he shared. “It’s important to write from whatever you’re going through at the time.”
‘Daylight’ Lyrics By Harry Styles:
I’m on the roof
You’re in your airplane seat
I was nose bleeding
Looking for life out there
Reading your horoscope
You were just doing cocaine in my kitchen
You never listen
I hope you’re missing me by now
If I was a bluebird
I would fly to you
You’d be the spoon
Dip you in honey so I could be sticking to you
Daylight
You got me cursing the daylight
Daylight
You got me cursing the daylight
Daylight
You’ve got me calling at all times
Ain’t gonna sleep till the daylight
Out of New York
I’m on the comedown speed
We’re on bicycles
Saying there’s life out there
You’ve got the antidote
I’ll take one to go, go please
Get the picture
Cut out my middle
You ain’t got time for me right now
If I was a bluebird
I would fly to you
You’d be the spoon
Dip you in honey so I could be sticking to you
Daylight
You’ve got me calling at all times
Ain’t gonna sleep till the daylight
Daylight
You got me cursing the daylight
Daylight
You got me cursing the daylight
Daylight
You’ve got me calling at all times
Ain’t gonna sleep till the daylight
If I was a bluebird
I would fly to you
You’d be the spoon
Dip you in honey so I could be sticking to you
