Our exclusive Q&A with Aria Wunderland

What’s the story behind your latest single “In My Head”?
This song basically describes the novelty of romance. The excitement of when it all begins and all you can do is think about the other person day and night. Everything reminds you of them, even the simplest things. You love every detail and think about them when you close your eyes and try to fall asleep at night. This song is a true crush anthem as you’re almost obsessed about the person while he or she may not even know you feel this way about them.

Can we expect an EP or LP soon?
Yes! Right now I’m having fun releasing individual singles. But I’m excited to announce that I am working on an EP. I keep writing more and more songs but it should be done and released in 2020!

Is there an opportunity to tour or play some new music live?
Yes I’m gonna start to do a small tour consisting of major cities in the northeast and California in the Spring of 2020.

What do you hope listeners take away from your music?
I hope that I can give people an escape as music was for me. There’s a lot going on in the world today and music can prove to be very healing and comforting. I hope that people can connect to my lyrics and feel that their sentiments aren’t unique to them. That someone else relates to them.

Who are some of your influences?
My influences are always evolving as every year more and more amazing artists break into the music scene. My past influences would be Radio Head, Kanye West, Mariah Carey, Cold Play, Sia, Chopin, Kendrick Lamar, Britney Spears. Today I’m really inspired and influenced by Rosalía, FKA Twigs, Shaed, Billie Eillish, Bazzi, and Post Malone to name a few! There is so much great talent out right now!

What is your first musical memory?
I’d say my first musical memory has to do with piano. We had a baby grand at our apartment growing up and I was definitely drawn to it even as an infant. But my first memory would be learning to play Disney songs by ear around 5.

Do you have a five-year plan or anything like that?
Yes I do! I hope to continue to share my music with the world and increase my reach. I also hope to be able to use this platform for a greater cause. As I become more successful and have access to more resources I would like to give back to the New York City community. I’m personally motivated to give back to teens in the inner city and hope to create a non-profit organization that provides them with music programs in 5 years from now.

What are your contenders for song of the year 2019?
There were so many incredible songs that came out in 2019. I would say my 3 top contenders would be Lose You To Love My by Selena Gomez – such a beautifully written song, Bad Guy by Billie Eilish or Aute Cuture by Rosalia.
