“Am I Wrong”, or is September going to be an exciting month for Nico and Vinz? If you listen to the radio at all, chances are you’ve heard the afore-mentioned song, seeing as in the past two months it has been the #1 most Shazam-ed song and hit the #4 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 list. This week it still sits at an impressive #6 on Billboard’s list, and is, as of writing this, at #33 on the iTunes charts. In both the US and the UK the duo have even been able to claim the #1 song on the radio.
Nicolas “Nico” Sereba and Vincent “Vinz” Dery are natives of Norway, and have had massive popularity there, where “Am I Wrong” has received a “Song of the Year” award and a nomination for a Norwegian equivalent of a Grammy for “Hit of the Year”.
Their first US album, titled Black Star Elephant, is set to drop the 16th of September, and includes a total of 20 tracks – a combination of songs and interludes. With parents of both Nico and Vinz having migrated to Norway from Africa, this album is set to draw on their recent heritage. Along with this honor to their parents’ nationalities on the album itself, they have also written a new song called “Find A Way” to be featured in The Good Lie, a movie inspired by the turmoil in Sudan. The song is being used in trailers for the movie and will be on the movie’s soundtrack, to be released September 30th. The movie, which stars Reese Witherspoon, will hit theaters on October 3rd.
Other notable events happening for Nico and Vinz here in the US in September include an appearance on Ellen the day before the release of Black Star Elephant to perform “Am I Wrong” and Fashion Rocks on CBS on the 9th, the latter of which will also showcase artists such as Rita Ora, Miranda Lambert, Afrojack, J-Lo and KISS.
