When Mickey Guyton sings, everyone listens. This was evident during the 2021 Grammy Awards when she performed “Black Like Me.”

Mickey’s First Grammy

On March 14, Mickey Guyton took the stage solo. A spotlight shined on her while she performed one of the most heartfelt country songs of all time. She then introduced fellow country artist Miranda Lambert to perform her nominated song “Bluebird.”

This year Mickey Guyton was nominated for her first-ever Grammy Award. “Black Like Me” is nominated for Best Country Solo Performance. Additionally, she became the first solo Black woman to be nominated in this category.

The 2021 Grammy Awards aired live on CBS and Paramount+ on March 14, two months after the original show’s air date. The Recording Academy chose to delay the ceremony due to the pandemic. The show itself took place at the Staples Center and surrounding buildings in Los Angeles, California.
