Jesy Nelson Departs Little Mix

By  |

It’s official. What was to be Jesy Nelson’s “extended break” from girl group Little Mix is turning into a permanent one as Nelson departs the band.

Some fans had seen it coming, but it is only today (Dec. 14) that it was officially announced via the group’s Twitter account.

“After an amazing 9 years together Jesy has made the decision to leave Little Mix. This is an incredibly sad time for all of us but we are fully supportive of Jesy,” the three remaining girls Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirwall shared on their platform.

In a series of tweets, the girls however reassured fans that Nelson’s departure didn’t sign the end of the band.

“We love her very much and agree that it is so important that she does what is right for her mental health and well-being. We are still very much enjoying our Little Mix journey and the 3 of us are not ready for it to be over. We know that Jesy leaving the group is going to be really upsetting news for our fans. We love you guys so much and are so grateful for your loyalty and continued support of all of us. We’re looking forward to seeing so many of you on tour. Love always, Jade, Perrie and Leigh-Anne xxx”

Nelson, Edwards, Pinnock and Thirwall found fame after winning the eighth season of the British version of The X Factor in 2011. The four girls went on to release six albums in the span of eight years. Although the pandemic prevented them from touring this year to perform their latest record Confetti, the four women still had some performances lined up until the end of the year, and it was about a month ago that Jesy Nelson stopped attending them.

Back then, the group’s representatives had announced Nelson was going to take an “extended time off from Little Mix for private medical reason.”

However, as Nelson’s absence dragged on, fans started figuring out the road the band was taking, so it didn’t come too much as shock when the 29-year-old made her departure official.
