heRobust Lollapalooza Interview!

By  |
How did heRobust get started?

I grew up in Atlanta making hip hop beats for friends. As my music progressed I started to get into the underground beat scene since I’ve always been influenced by Dilla and Flylo. I started to feel like I had taken that sound as far as it could go at the time and got more into the dance side of things. heRobust is a made up word so that when you listen to my music, you judge it for itself and not for my name.
You’re from Atlanta, GA. Did your local music scene provide any influence or support?
Absolutely! Atlanta has always been a hotbed for music, especially hip hop. It definitely plays a part in how I make my music.
Who were your musical influences growing up?
I didn’t listen to much electronic music growing up. When it comes to Hip Hop, everything ATL, but especially Outkast. Seeing them live for the first time this summer was a religious experience.

You just released URDNO – where did the name come from?
You already know, but if you didn’t RDNO, now you do.
If you had to choose one of your songs to introduce to new fans, which song would it be and why?
I’d say SHEKNOWSHEBAD, that track definitely spoke to the most amount of people.
What can fans expect from your Lollapalooza set?
Tons of different genres and lots of fast transitions. I’m even premiering a brand new single “Booty Be Like”.
You recently tweeted about a song you wanted to finish before the festival. How’s that coming along?
This track has been in the making for close to a year. I had to step away from it because I was finishing up some other projects and touring, but it’s been fun to get back at it. I don’t think i’ve ever laughed this much while making a track.
Will you be watching other sets this weekend? Who are you looking forward to seeing?
Outkast obviously. I’m also looking forward to seeing Skrillex, Flume, GTA, Duke Dumont, and of course Bae aka Iggy Azalea
What can we expect from you the rest of 2014?
A ton of free music. I’m trying to release a single a month until the end of the year and hopefully longer than that. Also a fall tour and maybe some other surprises.
