First City Festival

 This weekend kicks off the First City Festival in Monterey, California.  Monterey is very famous in the music world for the Monterey Pop Festival that happened in 1967 during the “Summer of Love” and had artist perform such as Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Janis Joplin, Ravi Shankar, Otis Redding, and the Mamas and the Papas.

This year the festival has some great artists performing over the weekend.  There will be three stages with performers.  Saturday’s line up includes Speedy Ortiz, Tokyo Police Club, Best Coast, Phantogram, Beck and many other artists.  Sunday’s line up has Dawes, The Naked and Famous, Cult, The National and a lot of other performances scattered out throughout the day.  A two day music pass is about $160 but a single day pass is about $80.  They also have VIP passes for sale that includes the perks of a special entrance, VIP bar and lounge, special performance viewing area, and unlimited carnival rides!
