Exclusive Q&A with LiLi Joy

By  |

LiLi Joy stole our hearts this year on The Voice. Now the sixteen-year-old has a brand new EP out and we got the chance to speak with this magical singer-songwriter.

Tell us about your EP, “Colours You Can’t See”.
“Colours You Can’t See” was written in a period of time where I was totally isolated. Each song speaks on a different emotion that seems almost too humiliating to talk about (in good and bad ways). This project kind of shines a light on what we feel when we’re forced to be alone with our emotions and how they can be both beautiful and terrifying at the same time.

How would you best describe your sound?

I would like to describe my sound as ethereal, vulnerable, and eccentric. I mix so many of my influences together that you truly never know what type of song you’ll get.

What advice would you give to your younger self auditioning for The Voice?
Honestly, I don’t know if I would give her any advice other than to remember that reality TV may be amazing, but it does not equate to real life.

How did your dream of being a pixie inspire you to get into music?
Haha! I think the ability to almost make my own magical world is what was so appealing to my fairy-loving self.

Do you practice magic?
Yes but not in the way you would think!

Are there any influences you have that may be surprising to your listeners?
Shadow rap and Mac Miller were HUGE parts of my coming of age and they’ve influenced my style so much in big and small ways.

Is there an opportunity to perform your new music live?
Hopefully soon!

After the EP, can we expect more singles, an LP or possibly both?
There will for sure be new singles AND a new album coming at different times within the next year and a half. So much more to come!!
